Minerva Hippolyta McGonagall (b. October 4, 1921) is a half-blood witch and an Archmagister.  Minerva was the eldest child and only daughter of Robert and Isobel McGonagall.  Minerva attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1933-1940 and was sorted into Gryffindor House--though it took five and a half minutes for the Sorting Hat to decide between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.  During her time at school, Minerva excelled at both Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts, and she was an avid Quidditch player.  Upon graduation, she had received honours in both subjects, and she earned the positions of Prefect, Head Girl, and Quidditch Captain.

After graduation, McGonagall moved to London and began working for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.  Through this department, she met the Department Head, and her future husband, Elphinstone Urquart.  She worked at the Ministry of Magic for five years before deciding to further her knowledge of both magic and Transfiguration.

Leaving the Ministry of Magic, McGonagall was offered the chance to become a mage student under the tutelage of Prince Cornelius Pendragon--younger brother to then King Charles.  McGonagall excelled under his tutelage and she completed her training in just over one year--one of the shortest times ever.  She then took to the field of Transfiguration--her favourite subject--and achieved her Mastery in Transfiguration.

Once she completed both of these admittedly arduous tasks, McGonagall found her true calling when she was hired into the Transfiguration Department of Hogwarts under the employment of Albus Dumbledore.

In 1952, Minerva married Elphinstone Urquart and the two lived together in the Forest Cottage.  Their Marriage brought about three children: Damien Urquart, Athena Rollins nee Urquart, and Cailan Urquart.  Their marriage was exceptionally happy, and the couple often hosted their large extended families for holidays.

In 1958, Minerva, and her colleague Rolanda Hooch decided to begin training mages together.  Using Minerva's home as their training grounds, the pair trained several students together over the course of four years.  In that time, Pomona Sprout and Poppy Pomfrey joined the staff of Hogwarts and soon joined the pair in training mages.

McGonagall joined the Order of the Phoenix when it was created in 1960 to fight Voldemort as he rose to power.  Over the next twenty years, she valiantly fought against him while also teaching at Hogwarts and training mage students.

After the defeat of Voldemort in 1981, Minerva continued to train mages.  In 1994, she offered Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Cedric Diggory, Terrance Higgs, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Roger Davies, Daphne Greengrass, and Cormac McLaggen the chance to be trained as mages.
