Joffrey Targaryen is the fourth-born child of Rhaenyra Targaryen. Rhaenyra, married to two men, is uncertain of who exactly his father is between Laenor Velaryon and Aemon Targaryen. Despite this, Joffrey is known to be legitimate. Joffrey's dark hair which he shares with several of his siblings has led many to claim that he is a bastard. His parents fervently deny this, and his grandfather, King Viserys I, has backed their legitimacy strongly. His step-grandmother, Alicent Hightower, has been trying to deny Joffrey's mother Rhaenyra the throne, and this has led to a split in the family.
