Queen Daenaera Targaryen of House Velaryon is the eldest daughter of the late Prince of Dragonstone, Jacaerys Velaryon, and Lady Sara Stark. She was born in the midst of the Dance of the Dragons, and her father died before he could tell his mother, Rhaenyra I Targaryen, about his marriage or children. As such, Rhaenyra inadvertently passed over Daenaera as heiress to the Iron Throne in favor of her own son, Aegon III Targaryen. To rectify this, she allowed Aegon to take Daenaera to wife when he fell in love with her when they were children.
Daenaera was raised in the North, and she keeps to the Old Gods rather than the Faith of the Seven. She then insisted her children be raised in both faiths upon her marriage to Aegon.
Daenaera has a combative relationship with Jaehaera Targaryen, who thinks of Daenaera as a usurper to her place as queen.
