Daphne Clarinda Greengrass (b. March 3, 1980) is a pure-blood witch born into the Greengrass Family. Her family is among the Sacred Twenty-Eight-the twenty--eight truly pure-blood families in Albion--though she was not raised to believe in the superiority of pure-bloods. Rather, Daphne was raised with the belief that wizarding traditions were dying out, and they needed to be preserved whenever possible. To that end, Daphne is deeply irritated by muggle-borns altering wizard traditions to fit their muggle counterparts without regard for the base culture. However, unlike many pure-bloods and Slytherins, Daphne believes that there are benefits to intermingling with muggles so long as wizarding society isn't lost along the way.
In 1994, Daphne was offered the chance to begin mage training under the tutelage of Professor Minerva McGonagall, Professor Pomona Sprout, Madam Poppy Pomfrey, and Madam Rolanda Hooch. Upon meeting her fellow mage students--Harry Potter, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Cedric Diggory, Hermione Granger, Terrance Higgs, Roger Davies, and Cormac McLaggen--she immediately began developing problems with Harry Potter due to their Opposing views on muggle involvement in the wizarding world and wizarding society. However, she quickly grew close to both Hermione Granger and Justin Finch-Fletchly through their shared love of history and passion for learning.
