Athena is a Greek Goddess and the eldest child of Zeus by his first wife, Metis. She is the goddess of Wisdom, War, Crafts, Strategy, and Reason. She is also often regarded as Zeus' favorite daughter. As she was born before her father's marriage to Hera, she is the only one of the goddess's step-children which Hera is not upset about. Though she is a maiden goddess, Athena is capable of having children through the meeting of minds. Much like she was born from Zeus' head after he ate her pregnant mother, Athena's children are born from her in a similar fashion. Through this method, Athena is the mother of Annabeth Chase by the mortal Frederick Chase.
